The Old Court House was built in the early 16th century and is of timber frame and rubble stone construction, with a chimney stack at the southern end. The first floor is jettied and adjacent buildings are contemporary. They were built between the two major building periods in Castle Combe, which were the two times of greatest prosperity. There is a fine moulded Tudor-arched stone fireplace inside with a royal coat of arms, probably those of Henry VIII
The ground floor is below the present level of the road and from it a wide curving staircase leads to the upper floor. Here there is a large, handsomely decorated chamber with curved oak beams and a high ceiling. This was the manorial court room and there was also a lock up in the garden of a cottage nearby. The south side is of three storeys and has blocked windows, probably as a result of the window tax of 1695
