Question
I would very much like to know how Nomansland, a village in or near the New Forest, got its name.

Answer
Nomansland is first mentioned in print, as Noman's Land, in 1802 in a case taken to the Parliamentary Commissioners. The name is likely to have arisen because the area lies between two counties, is extra parochial (not included in any ecclesiastical parish), and does not appear to have been included in any local manor or estate. You will find a few sentences on its early history on the Redlynch pages (including Churches and Schools) of Community History.
