By 1889 the Misses Julia and Janet Chinnock's private day and boarding school was in a house alongside the post office (the post office site is now the chemist's shop and pharmacy). From 1895 it is listed as Miss Chinnock's Private Day and Boarding School. It closed between 1923 and 1927.
