British School, Market Lavington

This would have been established by the Congregational Chapel and was in existence by 1848. In an 1850 directory it is described as the British Schools, with John Sayers as Master and Ann Sayers as Mistress. Apparently in 1858 between 40 and 50 children were being taught in a private house but the school seems to have gone by 1867, as it is not mentioned in the directory for that year.
