In 1732 the poor children of the parish repeated their catechism to the rector regularly on Sundays. At the end of this century there was a boarding school for 'young gentlemen' in the village. Here boys were taught subjects to qualify them for business. In 1818 a Sunday school was maintained in Sutton Veny for thirty children at the expense of the Rector. In 1846 there was a Sunday & Day school attended by thirty girls on Sundays & weekdays, & by twenty girls on Sundays only. There was a similar school for boys, built to accommodate fifty-two pupils.
