The British School was connected with the Congregational chapel. It was established by 1856, & a school building adjoining the chapel was built in 1869. Most of the children were from chapel families, but some Church of England children attended if this school was much closer to their home than the New School. There was accommodation for eighty children, but by 1889 there were just forty pupils. This had fallen to twenty four in 1903, & the school closed in 1910.
