Day School, Upavon

Two day schools existed in 1808 but only one in 1818 and this was probably the charity school that became the Church School in the village. In 1833 a private day school was being run in a private house with 14 children attending. In the school inspections of 1859 it was stated that ' a private individual instructs about 20 of the artisans' and small tradesmen's children at his own home. The school had gone by 1894, and probably earlier than this, but it is not mentioned in Wiltshire directories and does not seem to have advertised in local newspapers as it took only children of villagers.
