Early Schools, Urchfont

A very early school could be found in the village in 1749. It was a boarding school run by the Reverend George Jaques, Vicar of Urchfont. Samuel Woodforde, the father of the diarist the Reverend James Woodforde, was sent there. In 1818 a day school accommodated 40 children.
