By 1855 Miss Ann Pearce was keeping a day school at Longtsreet; she may have been the daughter of Henry Pearce, who was a baker and grocer there in 1848. She is listed in 1859 but by 1867 the school is being kept by Mrs Jane Dear and she continued until at least 1880.
