The first recorded school in Woodford was in 1793, when a dame school was run by a Mrs William Dear. This was at Pound Cottage, near to the village pond. Three schools in 1819 had 46 pupils between them, while a Sunday school was attended by 20 children. In 1835 there was an infant school for 13 boys and 8 girls while a Sunday School, established in 1828 took 35 boys and 35 girls. In 1846 there was a Sunday and day school which taught 60 boys and 57 girls.
