Malmesbury Union Workhouse was built in 1835 in an area called Gaston that was in Brokenborough parish until 1956 when it was transferred to Malmesbury. In the mid 19th century there was a school here for children living in the workhouse. The workhouse was converted to council housing in 1936 and 1938.
