Education in Froxfield was first noted in 1846, when there were two Sunday schools, attended by 29 children; the expenses of this were around £10 a year, with the master and mistress receiving around eight pounds and twelve shillings. Those children who went to day school were sent to Little Bedwyn School. In 1858, there was a widow in the village who took care of children while their parents were at work in the fields, or elsewhere; this type of school was known as a dame school, and was held in her cottage.
