A bequest by Henry Webb, who died in 1776 was made “for the appointment of a Schoolmaster, to teach and instruct the Children of the Poor and Indigent Parishioners residing in the Parish of Barwick [sic] Bassett, in Spelling, Reading, Writing and Arithmetick…” A tablet on the north wall of the church nave remains as a memorial and record of this bequest. In 1818 this school had 10 pupils and in 1833, 28 pupils.
