There was also a school at Orcheston St. George, noted in 1859 by Warburton, and described as a ‘small school-room with boarded floor.... erected eight years ago, with a residence for the teacher under the same roof.’ 30 scholars were taught here by an elderly woman, so it could be classified as a dame school. It is mentioned in Kelly’s directories but by 1885 the children appear to be attending the school at Orcheston St. Mary. There is a building close to the gate into the churchyard at Orcheston St. George which could have been this school; it shows up on maps of 1887 and 1900 but by 1924 the footprint of this building has been reduced.
