With the help of a grant from the National Society the school was built by Rev. F.E. Hutchinson in 1872. It shared the income from the Alice Coombe Trust with the Tisbury National School and by 1875 the average attendance was 22. An apse in the 13th century style was added to the school for church services. There was little change in numbers for the rest of the century with 23 children in 1903, but there was an increase to 31 by 1907. In 1921 the attendance had dropped back to 20 half the number that the school could accommodate. The school closed in 1926 but the apse remained in use for church services for some years. The children were transferred to Tisbury school. The school is now a private house.
