In 1808 12 parish children were being taught at the expense of the rector. A school supported by the rector and parishioners existed in 1818. A further school, supported by parents and started in 1833 was attended by 10 boys and girls. A new school and teacher’s house were built around 1859 on the south side of the lane leading to the church. 15 children were taught by a mistress and it was associated with the National Society. This school closed when Woodbury School opened in 1872. This new school, which was provided by the Earl of Normanton, was attended by children from Woodborough, North Newnton, Bottlesford in addition to Beechingstoke. By 1914 an average of 121 infants and juniors attended but by 1922 this was reduced to 89, and by 1970 only 68 children. The schoolroom became a parish hall and the teacher’s house a private residence.
