The school was opened in October 1973 in Lord's Mead, off Hungerdown Lane, replacing Lowden School, which had been open since 1896. The original St. Peter's Church had also been in Lowden and the new one had been built off Hungerdown Lane in 1968; the new school adjoined the new church. The school's classrooms are built around a pleasant open rectangular area, which has been made into a paved garden area for the children. In recent years much play and activity equipment has been installed in the surrounding playing field. There were 264 pupils on the school register in September 2006.
