There were two schools here before 1859 when it was proposed to amalgamate them. In 1893 a new National School was opened. It was taken over in 1905 by Wiltshire County Council and in 1929 the older children were transferred to Leigh Road Senior School and this one became a junior mixed and infants' school. Much housing was built at Westbury Leigh from the 1960s and numbers at the school rose. An extension was built and later prefabricated buildings were erected to provide extra classrooms and by 2002 there were 207 children at the school. In 2003 an agreement was reached between Wiltshire County Council and Persimmon Homes to exchange the old school site for a new site and a 14 classroom school, Persimmon built the school in exchange for the land, where it plans to develop housing. The new school opened early in 2004.
