Formed as the Westbury British Boys' School in Bratton Road in 1814 using a bequest of £1,000 from John Matravers for the education of poor children. There were 50 boys here in 1833, each paying one penny a week. Moved into the Laverton Institute in 1874 and transferred to Wiltshire County Council in 1907. The school closed in 1925 when the junior schools in the town were amalgamated to form Westbury Church of England Junior School.
