This comprehensive school was formed in 1971, using the sites of the former Grammar School, Secondary Modern School and Westport Church of England School. A new building was planned under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) between Wiltshire County Council and White Horse Educational Partnership (WHEP). The building, which opened in April 2002, is designed, built funded and operated by WHEP who are responsible for facilities management on the site leaving the education staff free to run the school.

The design is innovative with the main building having a two storey 'main street' running down the spine of the building and connecting to various subject area blocks. A Technical Faculty is housed in a separate building, close to the Creative Arts block. Already on the site was a new sports centre, opened in 1999, which the school uses as its Activity Zone, and plans have been approved for a new swimming pool here. which should be open early in 2004.
