This was founded by the burgesses, who may have had a school in the former Hospital of St. John in 1580. From 1609 money from lands at King's Heath provided the £10 for a schoolmaster. Instruction was free. In 1818 there were 25 pupils and by the late 19th century it was only attended by the sons of members of the Corporation or Freemen of Malmesbury. It closed in 1890 and the remaining 20 pupils were transferred to the National School.
