This possibly started in 1833 in Manton High Street when the vicar formed a school as the parishioners of Preshute were considered illiterate. This may have been rebuilt in 1845 and by 1858 there were 20-30 children at the school plus 20-30 infants, who were taught in a cottage. Numbers grew and in 1894 the school was enlarged and by 1906 there were 75 pupils, with over 100 attending by 1910. Numbers fell in the 20th century and there were 65 in 1981 but with new houses being built in the catchment area the number has risen to 192 in 2002. In the school grounds a Celtic atmosphere has been created with a Round Table and an Arthurian mural. There is also a stone circle reflecting Avebury and the nearby sarsen stones at Lockeridge Dene.
