A school was built to the north of the church in 1833 and consisted of just 2 rooms, one above the other, in a thatched building. It could accommodate 128 boys and 105 girls with a schoolmaster and schoolmistress for each. By 1846 there was a separate teacher's house but in 1859 there were only 50 boys and 50 girls attending school. The numbers did grow and in 1872 the school was enlarged by the addition of an infants' school on an adjacent site. Two years later, in 1874, there were 238 pupils.
In 1879 the infants' school was enlarged and by 1893 there were 311 on the school roll. The school was substantially rebuilt in 1894-5 to provide accommodation for 165 boys, 134 girls and 168 infants. In 1908 the total number of pupils was 382. In the early years of the 20th century the school was praised by inspectors and in 1926, in the re-organisation of Devizes schools, it became Southbroom Parochial School for Standard I and infants only.
