Ragged School, Salisbury

Founded in 1872 in association with the National Society in a building in Milford Street. It was non-parochial and for children of the poorest class. In 1873 the attendance averaged 101 and by 1878 this had increased to 144 although there was accommodation for 264 children. When the George Herbert School was built in 1890 the infants from the Ragged School were transferred there. In the 1890s there were between 60 and 100 children at the Ragged School which was amalgamated with the George Herbert School in 1900.
