Bradon Forest School, Purton

The school opened in 1962 as Bradon Forest Secondary School taking children aged over 11 from the Purton and Cricklade schools and those in the surrounding villages. Initially it could accommodate 390 students. During the next 30 years three extensions were added; the Tyler block for Mathematics and the Administrative Section, the Wills block for Science, Humanities and Music, and the May block, which housed Prevocation Education and the Careers Centre. In 1992 there were 900 students on the school roll.

The school became fully comprehensive in 1974 taking pupils from 11 to 16 years, after 16 they could go to either New College or Swindon College, both in Swindon. The catchment area was Purton, Cricklade, West Swindon, Ashton Keynes, Braydon, Latton, Leigh and Down Ampney. By 1996 there were 1016 students aged between 11 and 16 years. In 2002 there were 1171 students aged between 11 and 16 years.
