This school existed by 1838 and in 1840 a Miss E. Barker was employed as schoolmistress. She lived in the workhouse, ate the workhouse food and looked after the children six days a week. In 1858 30 boys and girls were taught by a qualified master while a sewing mistress had seven pupils and the school received a good report. In 1875 and 1880 Miss Caroline Turner is listed as being schoolmistress and at some time in the 1880s the children were transferred to the National School.
