Bowden Hill School, Lacock

The school was provided by Mrs Merewether in 1858 to teach children from the scattered settlements on Bowden Hill. It began with between 20 and 30 pupils and a schoolmistress. By 1875 it was was an infants' school for the 378 people in the ecclesiastical parish of Bowden Hill. The school is not mentioned in the 1880 county directory so presumably it had closed and the infants were going to the newly enlarged school in Lacock village.
