The school was opened in 1711 by the rector George Millard, who came to the parish in 1701. Pupils were taught to read and say the catechism and in 1712 the pupils included six poor children who were paid for by the rector. Parents of the other children paid a small sum each week. The school most probably finished in 1740 with the arrival of a new rector.
