This school was held in a farmhouse on the Cowage estate and must have been sponsored by the Earl of Shelburne, later the Marquess of Lansdowne. The school ran from 1773 to at least 1781. In 1773 there were 10 girls and 2 boys, nominated by the Earl of Shelburne. A mistress taught the children to read and knit. From 1814 children in the area would have attended the Buck Hill School.
