In 1835 it was reported that children from Chittoe attended schools in Bromham but by 1858 a certified mistress was teaching 21 boys and 7 girls in Chittoe. The schoolroom was damp with stone flag floors and the children sat at desks facing one another. Furniture, books, instruction and discipline were described as 'only pretty fair' and the children attended irregularly and were removed from school at an early age. A new school and house for the teacher were built by Captain J.E.P. Spicer and a government grant was received in 1888. In the 1890s to the start of the 20th century the average attendance was 51 but this began to decrease and the school was closed in June 1906. By the mid 20th century the school was used for village meetings and the school house was a private house.
