In 1867 Joseph Stapleton rented the building that had housed the Victoria School for Young Ladies and established his own school. In 1871 there were seven boarders, aged from 9 to 14 years, and there would also have been several day boys. The school ended in 1880 when Joseph Stapleton was declared bankrupt and the school equipment was sold.
