Early schools, Aldbourne

There may have been a school kept by a Dissenter in 1668. There was a schoolmaster recorded in 1736. Before 1783 the room over the church porch was used as a school. The curate, James Neale began building a new school for the children of the poor but it was never finished. In 1833 there were five fee paying day schools.
