Burton Hill House was rebuilt in 1846. Around 1936 it was leased to the Misses 'Zoo' and Hilary Hunt, who set up a private school in it. It provided nursery education for local children, both day pupils and boarders. It closed in 1945 and the house was later sold to the Shaftesbury Society who set up a school for physically handicapped children. There were 32 pupils in 1987.
