This private school was run in a cottage opposite Porch House. Miss Ann Wogan was an expert teacher of handwriting and provided her pupils with a good education. The schoolchildren came from the families of farmers and the better off villagers, paying fees of one shilling (5p) a week, whereas fees at the Church School were only one penny (0.4p) or twopence a week. The school started in the early to mid 1860s and continued until 1892. During the 1880s it was advertised as a school for young ladies and presumably it was always this. In the 1893 directory Miss Wogan is listed as a private resident only.
