Alfred Williams - 'An old shepherd's song, common to Wiltshire and Berkshire. I have heard it near Malmesbury and Faringdon. Obtained of Shadrach Haydon, Bampton, Oxfordshire.'
Note 2
Haydon, elsewhere described as a shepherd, is also noted as coming from Lyford and Hatford, Berkshire. The manuscript has a note, scribbled over, which mentions Charles Tanner, also of Bampton, who may have been a partial source.
