Williams / others notes
H E D Hammond: Rev J Mellish, Marlborough, who learned it from an Englishman in Leipzig.

A search of Crockfords Clerical Directory for this period shows that the incumbent at St Marys Church at that time was Arthur Edward George Peters. A James King Melliss of 29 Belmont Road, Portswood, Southampton is also in the Directory for 1909. He is listed as Chaplain to the Mission to Seamen in Southampton Water and Havre from 1883 to 1909 at least. It is speculation therefore that he was a friend of Rev.Peters and was on a visit to Marlborough when Hammond visited the town. [CDW]
