A school was opened for the children of Gurkha soldiers who were stationed here in 1962. The War Office provided an excellent converted building containing 5 classrooms and teaching began in May 1962 under a Head and 4 teachers, all Nepalese, who had moved from Malaysia with the children. Teaching was in the Gurkhali language, with English taught as a second laguage from the age of 8. In 1962 there were about 100 pupils, mostly under 8 years of age. Friendly relations were established with the other Tidworth schools in Wiltshire and Hampshire and a few older children attended Tidworth Down Secondary Modern School.
