Note 1
Williams, Alfred: Ms: 'This is older than the 'Green bushes' though it is not so well known. I have met with it but once, entirely, viz at Marston Meysey where I obtained the words of George Barrett. [Crossed out is -'It was his father's song. The old man has been dead for many years]. A version is printed in 'The Scots Musical Museum', 1803, by which it would seem to be claimed as of Scots origin.'
