Note 1
Williams, Alfred: Ms / WGS: 'We have already printed several fine hunting songs. Here we give several others that used to be popular in the Upper Thames region. There is something pleasantly human in the 'Dashing, little hunter'. The writer of the piece must have been tenderly fond of his horse to have spoken of it in such a charming manner. Words of John Taylor, Poulton.'
Note 2
At the end of the transcription in the Ms there is deleted note - John Taylor, Poulton, Glos, [old groom]
