Note 1
Williams, Alfred: Ms: 'Of the two versions [Southrop Poaching song] this is the better. It is more compact, though the local intrusions are more pronounced. Wytham Woods are on the hill of that name close to Oxford and round which the Thames sweeps wonderfully in its approach to the famous city of Oxford. Every traveller by road from Faringdon to Oxford is familiar with the sight of it, which is particularly striking from the top of Botley Hill. Obtained of Henry Leech, Eynsham, Oxfordshire.'
