Williams, Alfred: Ms / WGS: 'The tinker is celebrated in many songs and ballads though he is never treated with any degree of seriousness. As a rule, he was always looked upon as a meddler and a 'gay spark', and he consequently comes in for much satirical criticism and caricature. Obtained of W. Wise, Alvescot, Oxfordshire.'
