Note 1
Williams, Alfred: Ms: 'I heard this imperfectly, at Inglesham and Buscot. After many inquiries I found a more complete version at Stanton Harcourt, but I was not satisfied. Eventually I discovered it again at Southmoor, near Kingston Bagpuize, Berkshire. It is very old, I believe it to have been in existence for more than a century. Words of W. Dawson, Sutton [which in the 1901 Census is listed as part of Stanton Harcourt], Oxfordshire; and W. Ostley, Southmoor, Berkshire.'
Williams, Alfred: WGS: 'I heard this imperfectly, at Inglesham and Buscot, several years ago. After many inquiries I found a more complete version at Sutton, Stanton Harcourt, but I was not satisfied. Eventually I discovered it again at Southmoor, near Kingston Bagpuize, Berkshire. It is very old, as is also the song preceeding [Will the weaver]; I believe them to have been in existence for more than a century. Words of W. Dawson, Sutton, Oxfordshire; and W. Ostley, Southmoor, Berkshire.'

Note 2
