I am of the opinion that this is the original, and that the 'Seeds of love' was a later extension of the subject and idea. The last stanza may not have belonged to the song. It was, however, commonly added by the rustics. Obtained of David Sawyer, who learned it of his mother at Ogbourne, Wiltshire.'

Verse 2 is a later addition to the text
In Verse 1 Line 2 the original text was amended to:
That in my garden grew
But that has been deleted and the original kept.
In Verse 8 Line 4 the original text read:
As the stars in heaven that shine
