Williams, Alfred: Ms / WGS /FSUT: 'Although we have heard many songs in which the miller is highly extolled there are also those in which he is heartily condemned, and held up to the eyes of the world as a cunning and unscrupulous rogue. The following possibly represents him at his worst, though humour alone could justify the exaggerations. The song was popular around Highworth and Sevenhampton, Wiltshire.
