Note 1
Williams, Alfred: Ms / WGS / FSUT: 'An eighteenth century war song. Obtained at Castle Eaton; sung by the King Family.'
Note 2
Dallas, Karl: Cruel wars, Wolfe, 1973 p 33, 34, says: 'When Mrs Lucy Broadwood collected it from a man in Dunsfold in 1898, this was known as 'Some rival has stolen my true love away', and the two titles seem about equally popular. When Alfred Williams got it from the King Family in Castle Eaton, however, he called it an 18th century war song. Most of the words are the ones he collected.'.
