Title
Southrop poaching song
Singer
King, William
Notes
Williams, Alfred: Ms / WGS: 'When I first met with the following piece I imagined it might be of local origin, and labelled it, in my mind, of that class. Two months ago, however, I found another song, or rather, the same song in a different guise, at Eynsham, near Oxford, and was thereby furnished with another illustration of what I have pointed out, that is, the difficulty of saying with certainty what is or is not of strictly local value. At the same time, the original song may have belonged to the upper Thames district. I have not seen or heard of it anywhere else. Obtained of William King, Castle Eaton.'
