Pitcher of water

Song Lyrics
Verse 1

'Oh, where are you going so fast, pretty maid?'
Said I to a hind the other day, now;
'For a pitcher of water, kind sir, to the well,
And so don't stop me, I pray, now.'
'For a pitcher of water,' said I, 'is that all?
Why, I am much stronger than you, now;
So give me the pitcher, I'll fetch it for you,
So dearly, indeed, I love you now.'

Verse 2

The well being not far, I ran to it straight,
I bade her to wait there close by, now,
But great the misfortune I have to relate,
For the spire of the church caught my eye now,
Not thinking of wedlock - 'twas something to tell -
Crying - 'Fanny! Oh what shall I do now?'
I slipped and the pitcher it dropped in the well,
And I was near falling in too, now.

Verse 3

In tears she replied, 'I am ruined indeed,
Oh, where shall I go, or what do now?
My mother I promised to be back with speed,
This came of my trusting to you, now.'
'Never mind, my dear Fanny, I'll risk my own life,
If you will consent to be my love.
Never mind the old pitcher! I'll make you my wife,
And blest I shall be with my true love.'
